The truth is that most of what I write today, even outside the paywall, is written first and foremost because I feel an affection and obligation toward the paying subscribers. Substack told me I really shouldn’t try to sell paid subscriptions to my writing for less than $7/month or $70/year. So my paid subscriptions cost… $5/month or $50/year. (Sorry, Substack, but thank you for believing in me more than I believe in me!)
That’s not to say there is no extra benefit to subscribing. Paid subscribers get guaranteed topic requests. I get a lot of suggestions and requests for topics people would like me to cover. I seriously consider all requests and I’m often happy to oblige. But topic requests from my paid subscribers are always granted and given priority status within the cue of topics I am working on at any given time.
